Bon-Mi Gu, PhD

Principal Investigator

Bon-Mi Gu is a research scientist at the Neuroscience Institute of HMH JFK University Medical Center and serves as an assistant professor of Neurology at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Dr. Gu earned her PhD from the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University and conducted her postdoc research in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. Following her postdoc, she joined Stanford University as a researcher for two years. Her primary research focuses on revealing abnormal basal ganglia systems in brain disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.


Heather Birge, BSc

Research Technician

Heather Birge graduated from the University of St Andrews in the United Kingdom. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Neuroscience in May 2023. While at the University of St Andrews, she worked in Dr. Gayle Doherty’s lab where she examined the therapeutic potential of leptin as a treatment for neurodegenerative disorders, namely Alzheimer’s Disease. Heather is interested in continuing research examining mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.
